Become a RhoGAM® Brand Donor

HOW TO ENROLL IN THE RhoGAM® BRAND DONOR PROGRAM

If you live in the Buffalo, New York area and meet certain qualifications, you may be able to help us save babies’ lives by donating blood plasma.

For more than 30 years, Somerset Laboratories, Inc. has collected blood plasma used in the manufacturing process of RhoGAM® Brand. Somerset Labs is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company, and is located in Williamsville, New York. RhoGAM® Brand is an injection given to Rh-negative expectant women during and after pregnancy to prevent Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn. Each plasma donation for the production of RhoGAM® brand may save up to 30 babies’ lives. Prior to the introduciton of RhoGAM® brand in 1968, approximately 10,000 babies died annually in the U.S. from Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn1.

At Somerset Labs, we take great pride in our excellent safety and quality record, and in meeting the strict regulatory rules of the New York State Department of Health, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Plasma Protein Therapeutic Association (PPTA) and the European Union (EU).

Blood plasma donors are compensated for their donation. If you want to donate plasma for RhoGAM®, you must meet the criteria below in order to be scheduled for a phone interview:

  • Men and women between the ages of 18 and 70
  • Have a permanent residence located within 125 miles of Somerset Laboratories, Inc.
  • Be in good health
  • If you are taking prescription medication, a Somerset Labs physician will determine if the reasons you are taking the prescription(s) will affect your eligibility to donate plasma.

If you meet the minimum requirements listed above, please call Somerset Labs for a telephone interview that includes additional in-depth questions. After the telephone interview we will determine if you qualify to be scheduled for an in-person interview at our offices.
