Turning a Negative into a Positive
Why have I come to Somerset Labs every Wednesday and Friday for the past 25 years? The reason is, I want to turn a negative into a positive; so that Rh negative mothers would not have to go through what I and other mothers went through before RhoGAM® Brand.
I was very blessed that God gave my husband and me four beautiful normal healthy children. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my second child that I was told about the Rh negative factor and what my blood was doing to the child I was carrying. I can’t tell you how it made me feel. I would do anything to have a healthy baby.
I had amniocentesis, which was just coming into being. I had my daughter three weeks early, due to the outcome of those tests. At birth she had two complete exchange blood transfusions. Within a month she had a unit of packed red cells. More transfusions and packed red cells were needed for my twin boys born four years later. Today I have four beautiful, healthy children and four beautiful grandgranddaughters.
Nine years after my last pregnancy, there was an ad in the Buffalo News for Rh negative mothers. Before I answered the ad I talked to three of my doctors about Somerset Labs and their program. I also called Buffalo General Hospital Blood Bank and the Better Business Bureau. When all my questions were answered, I called Somerset Labs. When I learned I would be helping other mothers and saving babies’ lives, I couldn’t wait to be accepted into the program. And here I am today. That’s why I come to Somerset Labs.
