RhoGAM® Brand Plasma Donor Program
When it comes to manufacturing Rho(D) immune globulin, safety starts with the plasma donor. And when you choose RhoGAM® Brand, you’re entrusting your patients to a very tightly controlled plasma donor program.
ONE PLACE, FAMILIAR FACES
Unlike other manufacturers who draw their source plasma from multiple collection sites—and thousands of anonymous donors—plasma for RhoGAM® Brand typically is collected from a select pool of long-standing, carefully screened donors at one center near Buffalo, NY. They’re recognized members of the RhoGAM® Brand family who’ve been donating their plasma once or twice a week, year after year. Some of the RhoGAM® Brand donors have been giving for as long as 20 and even 30 years!
Some RhoGAM® Brand donors have personal reasons for participating in the program. For example, some were Rh-negative women carrying Rh-positive babies before RhoGAM® Brand was introduced in 1968, and their children were victims of HDN. Other donors are employees of Ortho Clinical Diagnostics and they’ve seen the good that RhoGAM® Brand does and want to play a larger role in the process. All RhoGAM® Brand donors are dedicated individuals who endure years of regular health screening and monitoring because they believe that no woman, or child, should ever again be left unprotected against the threat of HDN.
Highly controlled donor program
- Plasma for RhoGAM® Brand is typically drawn from a limited pool (approximately 300 donors) at Somerset Laboratories, Inc., an FDA-licensed donation center located near Buffalo, NY
- Other manufacturers of human IgG and blood products use as many as 10,000 donors1
- 25% of RhoGAM® Brand plasma donors have been contributing for more than 10 years, some for as long as 30 years
- The small, well-known donor pool size reduces the likelihood of it containing infectious agents
- Donated plasma is screened for viral markers using the polymerase chain reaction technique
